Through generous support of the National Science Foundation (Award Number 1449893) and the University of Missouri Research Reactor, Zack Gilmore and Ken Sassaman sought to characterize variation in the provenance and mineral composition of Stallings pottery as a proxy for changes in community organization and distribution in the Savannah River valley.
Results have been issued in a 2018 poster at the Society for American Archaeology meeting in Washington D.C. (click on thumbnail at left), a 2018 paper in the Journal of Archaeological Science, and a 2021 paper in Journal of Anthropological Archaeology. You can also download an Excel spreadsheet with the petrographic data of this project.
