Middle Savannah River Valley Projects

Ten years of fieldwork in the Middle Savannah River Valley of Georgia and South Carolina came to a close in 1999 with a National Geographic funded excavation at Stallings Island, an Archaeological Conservancy site. As laboratory analyses and reporting continues for Stallings Island and three other Late Archaic sites in the Middle Savannah, a valley-wide project on the provenance of pottery is revealing the alliances and patterns of movement among communities who made and used the oldest pottery in North America.
