Lower Suwannee Archaeological Survey

Since 2009, the Lower Suwannee Archaeological Survey has partnered with U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to inventory and assess archaeological resources on the Lower Suwannee and Cedar Keys National Wildlife Refuges and associated inholdings along the northern Gulf Coast of Florida. The project involves reconnaissance and test excavations at sites throughout the refuges as well as directed research on sea-level rise adaptations, mound building, mortuary practices, ritual feasting, fishing technology, and more. Dissertations, theses, journal articles, and several technical reports report the results of work to date. Go to the project page to learn more.
