Consulting Services

The Laboratory of Southeastern Archaeology (LSA) does not operate a consulting branch per se, but it is responsive to public needs for archaeological investigations in areas of ongoing LSA investigation.  Recent consultancies on projects for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the U.S. Forest Service resulted in data relevant to long-term research in these areas while also providing information to minimize the adverse effects of proposed land alteration.

In addition to occasional, project-specific consultancies, the LSA bends its research investigations toward the obligations of federal and state agencies to protect and manage archaeological resources on properties they own or manage.  The results of five years of field school investigations have enhanced the resource management plans of state parks in the middle St. Johns region, while the newly launched Lower Suwannee Archaeological Survey will provide data on site location and condition required by the Comprehensive Conservation Plan of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
